No fewer than 20 people including children sustained high degree of burns from gas explosion that occurred at Big Tree, Orazi in Port Harcourt, Rivers State yesterday.
It was gathered that many of the victims were rushed to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt, for medical attention.
The cause of the explosion could not be ascertained, but sources disclosed that the owner of the gas retailing shop was carrying out welding activities at the site, when the tragedy struck.
In a trending video, some of the victims were burnt beyond recognition and are currently receiving treatment.
So far, no deaths have been recorded as of the time of filing this report.
An anonymous source in the area said most of the victims were passers-by who were close to the gas refilling shop when the explosion occurred.
According to the source, the victims were immediately rushed to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital Emergency unit for urgent attention.
