A socio-political group under the aegis of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) are advocating for a nationalist as Nigeria’s next President.
They said the individual must have strong competence, character, capacity and track records.
The Southwest elders affirmed that they are willing to support any candidate that meets their criteria for President in 2023.
The Yoruba Council of Elders said this at a meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo state, where they discussed other issues affecting the region and the country at large.
The National President of YCE, Justice Ademola Bakre, told newsmen at the end of the meeting that, “The Yoruba Council of Elders is interested in who leads the country in 2023. Whoever wants to aspire to lead this country must be a Nigerian; he must have competence, character, capacity and track records of performance.
“At our level here, we have gone beyond tribalism or parochial interest. We are interested in the good of this country.
“The situation in the country has deteriorated even when you are talking in terms of federal appointments, but the infrastructure in the South- West is most deplorable.
“So we want a true and true Nigerian wherever he comes from, but he must have competence, character, capacity and track records of performance.”
