A Federal High Court in Abuja has put a stop to purported attempts by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to suspend the executives of the party in Rivers State.
Symfoninews learnt that the National leadership of the party had planned to take the action over allegations of anti-party activities.
While ruling on an application to the effect brought before him, Justice Inyang Ekwo held that “the fears of these members of the PDP were well founded, and that suspending or expelling them will amount to the breach of their rights to freedom of association.”
The judge held it was in the power of the court to grant succour to persons who have well-established facts that would amount to the infringement of their rights as members of political parties can not be suspended arbitrarily without compliance with the political party’s guidelines.
