The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has transmitted power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to pilot the affairs of the state in an acting capacity.
The development is perhaps related to the outcome of President Bola Tinubu’s Tuesday meeting with Aiyedatiwa and other state stakeholders at the Presidential Villa about the political turmoil in the state.
Having been out of the state for more than six months owing to illness, Akeredolu informed the State House of Assembly that, in response to his treatment, he will be taking a medical leave of absence.
Political tensions in Ondo state had increased as a result of the governor’s absence, with calls for Aiyedatiwa to take over in order to maintain efficient state governance.
Akeredolu’s Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, provided newsmen with a statement in which the governor said he will prioritise his health during the medical vacation and make sure he fully recovers before returning to his official duties.
He said: “A formal letter regarding the medical leave and a notice formally transferring power in line with the Nigerian Constitution will be transmitted to the House of Assembly.”
