The All Progressives Congress (APC) has threatened to expel the Benue state governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia from the party if he fails to withdraw, from the courts, all cases instituted against all party stakeholders in the state.
This follows the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party which resolved that all legal issues in the Benue state chapter of the party must be withdrawn within seven days.
The letter conveying decision of the NWC of the party, which was signed by Sen. Surajudeen Basiru, the party’s National Secretary was dated March 20, 2024 and addressed to Governor Alia.
The letter which was titled ‘Resolution of the National Working Committee to Discontinue Ongoing Legal Cases to all Stakeholders of the APC in Benue State’, had given the governor seven days to withdraw all such cases.
“This is to bring to your attention the decision of the party on the ongoing cases involving the party or related to issues concerning the party at various courts,” the letter reads.
It continued saying “The National Working Committee resolved that all ongoing cases filed in the name of the party or associated with matters concerning the party and involving party members must be discontinued and withdrawn from the courts within the next seven days.
It warned Alia that “failure to comply with this resolution will result in disciplinary action being taken against any member responsible for such suits, including immediate suspension and ultimately expulsion from the party.”
The party further reminded Gov. Alia that “It is crucial that all members of the APC Benue state chapter adhere to this directive promptly. The unity and integrity of our party must be upheld and resolving legal matters internally is paramount to maintaining the cohesion and focus of the APC.”
Meanwhile, there are no indications that the Benue state chief executive has complied with the party order.
