The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has affirmed the suspension of it’s Women Leader, Maryam Suleiman who criticises the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, over the huge debt inherited from previous administration in the state.
A statement by the State’s APC Publicity Secretary, Salisu Tanko Wusono, on Tuesday in Kaduna, affirmed the indefinite suspension of the women leader.
The party said the disclosure of the State’s debt profile was commendable and showed the governor’s commitment to transparent and inclusive governance.
Governor Uba Sani, had penultimate Saturday, during a Town Hall Meeting, lamented the huge debt inherited from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, on May 29, 2023.
Sani had said the state is now left with a few amounts, not enough to pay salary, adding that his administration inherited a total of $587m, N85bn and 115 contractual liabilities from the ex-governor.
“Despite the huge debt burden of 587 million Dollars, 85 billion Naira, and N115bn Contractual Liabilities sadly inherited from the Previous administration, we remain resolute in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development. We have conducted a thorough assessment of our situation and are sharpening our focus accordingly,” the governor had said.
In response, the APC women leader in a viral video in Hausa berated the governor over his remarks debt burden inherited from the former governor, Nasir El-Rufai’s administration.
This earned the women leader suspension from her the Badarawa/Malali ward over purported actions that tarnished Governor’s reputation.
The ruling party commended Governor Uba Sani’s open and inclusive leadership style, evident in the diverse representations at the State of Kaduna Town Hall Meeting’ held last Saturday.
“The event provided a platform for discussing the state’s challenges, progress, and plans, reflecting the administration’s dedication to citizen engagement,” the party stated.
The party further hailed Governor Sani’s recent initiatives aimed at alleviating economic hardship and fostering progress in Kaduna State.
“These include grants to 7,500 SMEs, support for 5,000 farmers, cash transfers, and food distribution to vulnerable households.
“Governor Uba Sani’s update on security affairs during the Town Hall, including the establishment of more Forward Operation Bases, instils hope for a safer future,” it said.
According to The party, in response to recent actions by the State’s APC Woman Leader, Hajiya Maryam Suleman, popularly known as Mai Rusau, that contravened the APC constitution, the party has affirmed her indefinite suspension.
The statement added, “this decision reinforces the party’s commitment to upholding discipline and integrity within its ranks.
“APC Kaduna reiterates its steadfast support for the Uba Sani administration and urges the Governor to remain focused amidst distractions from detractors.”
