Unidentified arsonists have detonated explosive device suspected to be dynamite at the secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The APP secretariat, which is along the GRA axis of Port Harcourt, was reportedly attacked at about 1 am on Monday.
The person or persons that allegedly carried out the operations might have thrown the explosive device into the building shattering windows, doors and destroying other party property in the house.
This came amidst speculations that the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, plans to move with his supporters to the APP, following the alleged hijack of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state by his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The attack has been attributed to the ongoing political crisis in the state between supporters of the Minister and governor.
A party official was quoted, saying, “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack at about 3 am today.
“This is politically-motivated and there is no two ways about it. They know that the APP is a fast-growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits.”
However, Rivers State Police Command has not reacted to the attack.
