Blood flowed like a river as over 15 youngmen in their prime were killed by yet to be identified gunmen in Nibo, Awka South local government area of Anambra State.
Daily Sun reports that the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at Nwochichi market very close to governor’s lodge.
According to sources, the incident happened on Sunday afternoon at the Oye Nwochichi Market, by Nibo Old Maternity, where the hoodlums who were said to be operating in an aah coloured vehicle opened fire on people around the area.
The incident threw the entire community into tension as people ran for safety resulting in security beef up around the governor’a lodge.
Though Anambra police command confirmed the incident, they described it as cult related clash and called for calm even as it orders for security back up in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Toochukwu Ikenga said the Command was aware of a suspected cult-related clash in Nibo, Awka South council area.
He said Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam had ordered immediate deployment of additional operatives to the area for necessary action.
“Preliminary reports of the incidents are still sketchy as the Command calls on the witnesses of this incident to volunteer information that will help to identify the perpetrators for possible arrest. Be assured that information sent in this regard shall be treated with utmost confidentiality.
