A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Fabiyi Oladimeji, has reacted to the recent claim by the Nigerien Military Head of State, Abdulrahman Tchiani, accusing President Bola Tinubu-led government of colluding with France to destabilize his country.
Fabiyi noted that the accusations are weighty and sensitive but “must not be swept under the carpet, especially when it is on the backdrop of another allegation from America which posits that the President is a CIA asset.”
Fabiyi claimed further that the issues at stake in the Niger Republic leader’s accusation borders on multinational security situation in the West African sub-region.
“These claims should not be treated with levity. Allegations of such magnitude with international dimension require that Nigeria, being a sovereign nation with her space and position in the sub-region, should be taken seriously and responded to by the highest level of government.
Fabiyi frowns at an attempt by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, to downplay the matter or wish it away, saying: “Such disposition speaks volumes about Tinubu administration’s lack of understanding of global politics and National Security.
“The Niger Republic Head of State’s accusations of the administration’s romance with France to destabilize the West African subcontinent must be duly investigated and appropriate measures taken to protest the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
“These, no doubt, are weighty accusations from the Head of State of a country. And it is more perplexing that it is coming after the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), a foreign intelligence agency, labelled President Tinubu as “an asset.”
Only the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria can speak to these issues and reassure the country against the potential consequences of these developments,” Fabiyi affirms.
He consequently calls on President Bola Tinubu to “address the Nation on these allegations; it has become imperative to do so as Nigeria’s enduring leadership role in the sub-region and its peace, stability and bilateral relationship efforts with our neighbouring countries must be given consideration in dealing with the issues,” Fabiyi concludes.
