Abuja – The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has officially pegged the cost of its Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms at N40 million for aspirants vying for its ticket in the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship election.
According to a document signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, in Abuja, the breakdown of the fees shows that the Expression of Interest Form costs N5 million, while the Nomination Form is priced at N35 million.
The PDP also released its official election timetable, detailing key dates for the selection process. The sale of forms will begin on February 24, with a submission deadline set for March 7 at the PDP National Secretariat. A stakeholders meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) is scheduled for March 10, followed by the screening of aspirants on March 11. Aspirants who wish to appeal the screening results will have their cases heard on March 14.
The National Working Committee will approve and release the final list of cleared candidates on March 19. From March 20 to 21, the party will conduct ward congresses to elect three ad-hoc delegates per ward, followed by a local government congress on March 27 to elect one delegate per local government area. The PDP Governorship Primary Election will take place on April 5, where delegates will vote to select the party’s flag bearer. Any appeals on the primary election results will be heard on April 8, and the winner will receive the Certificate of Return on April 10. The party will then submit the names of its governorship candidate and running mate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by May 22.
The high cost of nomination fees is expected to be a significant factor in the race. Political analysts believe this fee structure could narrow the field to only serious contenders with strong financial backing and political influence. The PDP’s decision follows a growing trend in Nigerian politics, where major political parties impose hefty fees for governorship tickets. While some critics argue that such high costs discourage grassroots politicians, party officials defend the move as a way to filter out unserious aspirants.
The April 5 primary election will determine the party’s flag bearer, who will then have until May 22 to finalize their candidacy with INEC. The Anambra State Governorship Election on November 8, 2025, is expected to be a closely watched contest, with the PDP aiming to reclaim power in the state. The ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and other parties like the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party (LP) will also be fielding strong candidates.
With political maneuvering already underway, the PDP’s governorship ticket battle promises to be a high-stakes showdown among aspirants.
