The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announces a new power generation peak of 5,713.60MW, the highest in four years, marking a significant milestone for Nigeria’s power sector. Read more.

Nigeria’s Power Generation

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the country’s power generation reached a new milestone of 5,713.60 megawatts (MW) on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. This is the highest level recorded in four years, signaling a notable achievement in Nigeria’s electricity sector.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, the TCN disclosed that the power sector had successfully transmitted its new peak generation for 2025, surpassing the previous record set earlier in the year.

According to the statement, this new peak generation was recorded at 21:30 hours on March 4, 2025, exceeding the 5,543.20MW recorded on February 14, 2025, by an additional 170.40MW. The TCN emphasized that while this figure remains 88MW lower than Nigeria’s all-time highest peak generation of 5,801.60MW, recorded on March 1, 2021, it is a significant improvement over recent years.

The agency also highlighted a new record for maximum daily energy transmission. The power sector successfully delivered a total of 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh) on March 4, surpassing the previous record of 125,159.48MWh achieved on February 14, 2025. This represents an increase of 382.58MWh in daily energy supply.

POWER GENERATION

However, in spite of this significant progress, Nigeria’s power sector continues to face significant challenges. The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had earlier pledged that power generation would reach 6,000MW by December 2024. However, this target was not met due to persistent issues such as vandalism, grid collapses, and inadequate power infrastructure.

Currently, more than 50% of Nigerians lack access to reliable electricity, a situation that continues to hinder economic growth and industrial development. Frequent power outages have forced many businesses and households to rely on costly alternative energy sources such as diesel and petrol generators.

The federal government has however, reiterated its commitment to improving the country’s power infrastructure. Efforts are being made to modernize the national grid, enhance generation capacity, and ensure better electricity distribution across the country. Plans are also underway to phase out the use of power generators in favor of more sustainable and affordable energy solutions.

certainly like your web site but you need
to take a look at the spelling on several of your posts.
Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I find it very
troublesome to inform the reality then again I’ll certainly come
    again again.
