President Tinubu has appointed Dr. Mohammed Aminu as NABTEB Registrar and Idris Olorunnimbe as UBEC Board Chairman. The appointments aim to enhance Nigeria’s education sector.
President Bola Tinubu has made key appointments in Nigeria’s education sector, naming Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Aminu as the new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB). He has also appointed Idris Olorunnimbe as the Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Board, along with two deputy executive secretaries for UBEC. These strategic appointments are expected to drive major reforms in vocational and basic education across the country.
Dr. Mohammed Aminu, now at the helm of NABTEB, brings nearly three decades of experience in teaching, administration, research, and policy development. His academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Automobile Technology and a Master’s degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management. Before his appointment, he served as Director of Procurement at the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).
A strong advocate for vocational education and youth empowerment, Dr. Aminu has contributed extensively to research on innovative teaching methods, poverty alleviation, and skills development. He is a member of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria and the Automotive and Locomotive Engineers Institute. President Tinubu has urged him to implement transformational leadership at NABTEB, ensuring that the agency continues to assess and certify skilled professionals vital for Nigeria’s industrial development.
In another significant appointment, President Tinubu has named Mr. Idris Olorunnimbe as the new Chairman of the UBEC Board. Olorunnimbe is widely recognized for his dedication to youth empowerment and education. As the Group CEO of The Temple Company, a firm he founded in 2016, he has spearheaded various initiatives across education, entertainment, and sports. His previous role as a board member of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) saw him drive impactful youth employment and entrepreneurship programs, particularly as chairman of the Stakeholder and Governance Committees.

Alongside Olorunnimbe, President Tinubu has appointed two deputy executive secretaries to UBEC. Rasaq Olajuwon, representing the South West, will serve as the Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical). Before this appointment, he was the Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA). Meanwhile, Tunde Ajibulu, from the North Central region, will take on the role of Deputy Executive Secretary (Services). Ajibulu, a Fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), is a director at Tangent Construction Nigeria Limited and a partner at Covenant Consultancy Services.
These appointments come after President Tinubu’s earlier selection of Aisha Garba from the North West as the executive secretary of UBEC in December 2024. With these new leadership changes, the President aims to strengthen UBEC’s ability to provide high-quality basic education to Nigerian children.
President Tinubu has expressed confidence that the new appointees will bring fresh energy and expertise to their roles, ensuring Nigeria’s education sector is better equipped to meet national development goals.
