President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of principal officers for two key federal institutions: the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, Ogun State, and the Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, Kebbi State. These appointments mark a significant step in advancing medical and technical education in Nigeria, ensuring that both institutions are led by experienced professionals with a track record of excellence in academia and administration.
At the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Abeokuta, Professor Fatiu Abiola Arogundade has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor. He is joined by Dr. Obayomi Olukayode Gregory as the Registrar, Mrs. Adedokun Omolola Olufunso as the Bursar, and Dr. Idiat Odunola Agboola as the University Librarian.
Professor Arogundade, a distinguished professor of medicine at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, currently serves as the College Registrar at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Ijanikin. With over 33 years of experience in teaching, research, and administration, he has played a pivotal role in advancing medical education in Nigeria. He is also a Fellow of the International Society of Nephrology and has led groundbreaking research projects while securing significant grants between 2012 and 2023.

Dr. Gregory, the new Registrar, has served as the Deputy Registrar at the National Mathematical Centre in Abuja, bringing extensive administrative expertise. Mrs. Olufunso, a Chartered Accountant, previously held the position of Deputy Bursar at Obafemi Awolowo University, while Dr. Agboola has been an Associate Professor of Library Science at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
President Tinubu urged the newly appointed officers to provide visionary leadership and build a solid foundation for the university’s growth and development. He expressed confidence that the team’s collective expertise would help the institution, which was established in 2023, produce world-class medical professionals.
Similarly, at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, President Tinubu has appointed Professor Sa’adu Umar as the Provost. Other key appointments include Mr. Abdullahi Ahmed as the Registrar, Dr. Muhammad Yusuf Alkali as the Bursar, and Mrs. Maimuna Mohammed Ahmed as the Librarian.
Professor Umar, a seasoned academic, is a Professor of Agricultural Extension and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) at Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero. He is well-regarded for his dedication to academic leadership and commitment to educational development.
The new Registrar, Mr. Ahmed, previously served as Deputy Registrar at the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, and has extensive experience within the Federal College of Education (Technical), Potiskum. The tenure of the appointed officers at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, is set at five years, without extensions, as stipulated in the Federal Colleges of Education Act, 2023.
The Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, was established by an Act of the National Assembly to offer full-time courses in various disciplines, including technology, applied science, arts, social sciences, humanities, and management. The institution is expected to play a crucial role in training future educators with specialized technical skills.
President Tinubu’s appointments reflect his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s educational system. By selecting highly qualified professionals, he aims to ensure that these institutions fulfill their mandates of producing skilled graduates who will contribute to national development.
With the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, set to become a leading hub for medical education and research, and the Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, focused on technical and vocational training, these leadership changes signal a new era of progress for both institutions. The newly appointed officers now have the responsibility of steering their respective institutions toward excellence in academic standards, research, and overall institutional development.
