The Lagos State Police Command has recorded a major victory in the fight against violent crime with the arrest of the most notorious hired killer in recent Lagos history, Wasiu Akinwande, also known as Olori Eso.
Police operatives from the Command’s Tactical Squad arrested the 44-year-old suspected killer in Agbado, Ogun State, during a special operation codenamed Silence, Speed and Surprise. The operation ended a 15-year-long reign of terror that affected Mushin and other parts of Lagos State.
In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, described Akinwande as a dangerous criminal who led multiple gangs responsible for killings, armed robbery, kidnappings, and cult-related attacks. His arrest, according to the police, is a big step toward restoring safety and peace in affected communities.
The police recovered a large number of weapons from his hideout and residence, including AK-47 rifles, a K2 assault rifle, a Red Ryder rifle, pump-action rifles, locally made pistols, loaded magazines, live cartridges, live ammunition of various calibres, a dagger, walkie-talkies, and nine international passports belonging to different people.
The suspect reportedly confessed to using the weapons in his deadly operations. Four families have already identified him as the man responsible for the killings of their loved ones.
Police investigations reportedly revealed that Akinwande had been operating since 2009 and had evaded capture by moving from one state to another. Despite several close calls, officers remained on his trail and finally apprehended him.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to deepen the investigation and ensure that all those connected to Akinwande’s gang are arrested and brought to justice.
Speaking on the arrest, CP Jimoh assured Lagosians that the police remain committed to making the state safe. He praised the officers involved in the operation for their courage and urged the public to continue sharing useful information that can help the police fight crime effectively.

“Wasiu Akinwande is currently in police custody under heavy security and will face full prosecution for his crimes,” The CP assured.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
It is a praise worthy effort by the police, but let justice be done. Sometimes when issues like this are made, corrupt officers are paid and the criminals are released to continue to torment the citizens. Let justice be truly seen.
