The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh has assured Lagosians of a peaceful and credible election on Saturday, July 12, 2025, declaring the full readiness of the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies to secure the electoral process across the state.
Speaking during a media briefing with senior officers, area commanders, divisional police officers (DPOs), and other tactical commanders, the Commissioner emphasized that the police will strictly adhere to the Electoral Act and all relevant laws governing election security.
“We are here today to remind our personnel of their responsibilities during the election. Our men will be guided by the Standard Operational Guidelines and the Code of Conduct for Law Enforcement Officers on election duty. The safety of voters, INEC officials, observers, and electoral materials is our top priority,” he stated.
He confirmed that the deployment of officers has been finalized and that the Force has received over 8,000 additional personnel from six neighboring states, as approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. These reinforcements include specialized units such as the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Special Protection Unit (SPU), Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), among others.

The Commissioner disclosed that security coverage will span all 13,325 polling units across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State. He stressed that there will be no bias in the discharge of duties, and officers must ensure law and order before, during, and after the election.
Fifteen political parties are participating in the upcoming polls, and the police have held multiple meetings with all stakeholders, including under the platform of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), to ensure peaceful conduct.
“So far, we’ve had peaceful campaigns and rallies. No act of violence has been recorded from the primaries to this moment. We intend to maintain this standard through effective crowd control, traffic management, and swift response to any incident,” he said.
As part of voter confidence-building, the police have launched a statewide “Show of Force” exercise to reassure the public of their readiness and deter any potential troublemakers. This exercise, which began earlier today, continues tomorrow across all divisions.
The Commissioner warned criminals and election disruptors to stay away, adding that any individual caught trying to undermine the election would face the full wrath of the law. “We will arrest, investigate, and prosecute anyone found wanting. Let this be a final warning,” he said.

To further secure the exercise, a Joint Operations Room has been established at the Lagos Police Command Headquarters. It will serve as the central hub for coordination among all security and safety agencies involved in the election.
In a related development, the police announced a restriction of vehicular movement on election day from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., to allow for a hitch-free process. However, exceptions will be made for extreme medical emergencies and international travelers.
Residents and visitors to Lagos are encouraged to cooperate with security agencies. Dedicated distress call numbers will be circulated for public use, and all complaints or incidents will be swiftly attended to through the inter-agency coordination mechanism.
