n a major move recognising legal excellence, the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has conferred the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on 57 distinguished lawyers.
The announcement was made on Thursday, July 24, 2025, after the LPPC’s 169th plenary session chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
According to the statement by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Eniola Akanbi, 56 advocates and one academic were approved for the elevation.
Among the new SANs are Theophilus Kolawole Esan, Fedude Zimughan, Ernest Chikweninikeri, Victor Esirlakpoguma, Leslie Akhijom Njemanze, Akinwunmi Wilson Adewale, Praye Agedah, Bomamuzo Erebe, Hannibal Egre Uwajifo, Olumide Sogisola, George Far Kaebel, Oromena Justice Ajakpovi, Tairu Aderayo, Dawa Akhimie Osali Ibrahim, Suleh Umar, Godwin Sunday Ogbolero, Godwin Aimuagbonkhe Idlagionya, Adfollo Olumegun Salarc, Adetunji Oso, Achi Nike Godwin William-Wobodo, Shuaib Agbarere Mustapha, Adizija Chu-Chukorgafor, Olanrewaju Tasleem Akinsola, Amaechi Fidelis Feeships, Adakole Edwin Inggele, Ovinkansola Badero-Okunsanya, David Ogenyi Ogebe, Aminu Sani Gadanya, Oluseun Awonuga Adentyling, Ikechukwu Raphael Uwanna, Ayodele Joseph Ademola, Kelect Nwaiwu, Lawal Garba Teh, Ibim Simeon Dokubo, Delika Abubakar

The sole candidate from the academic category is Professor Chima Josephat Ubanyionwu.
According to Akanbi, the SAN rank is a symbol of honour, conferred on lawyers who have distinguished themselves in advocacy or legal scholarship. He added that the Committee also reviewed three petitions against some applicants but found them baseless and dismissed them.
All successful conferees must complete a mandatory Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme, as directed by the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), before they can be officially sworn in.

The LPPC also warned the newly elevated lawyers to avoid publishing congratulatory messages or adverts about their elevation, in line with professional conduct rules. Any breach may lead to disciplinary action.
The official Swearing-In Ceremony for the new Senior Advocates will take place on Monday, September 29, 2025.
