The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has called for a full criminal investigation into the incident involving popular Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate and domestic airline ValueJet at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
In a statement by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the NCAA confirmed it has petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, urging them to prosecute the case in line with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs) 2023 and other relevant laws.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, disrupted the standard operational procedures and raised concerns over passenger conduct and airline safety protocols. Thus, the NCAA said the decision comes after an alleged violation of aviation safety rules during a ValueJet flight boarding process on Monday, August 5, 2025.
Achimugu also stressed that aviation laws are global and apply to everyone.
“No individual will be exempt from accountability. We will ensure justice is served,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, confirmed he had reviewed official reports and video footage of the incident, describing the musician’s conduct (allegedly blocking an aircraft from taxiing) as “akin to a hostage situation” and ordered that K1 be placed on a no-fly list until the investigation is concluded.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) earlier stated that the dispute began when K1 attempted to carry a liquid-filled flask which was later confirmed to be alcohol, onboard in violation of the 100ml liquid limit under global aviation security rules. Tensions rose after he reportedly refused further screening.

However, K1’s camp denied wrongdoing, insisting the flask contained drinking water and that the matter was blown out of proportion. His media aide, Kunle Rasheed, said the singer remained calm and law-abiding, adding that senior airport officials even apologised and offered him a private jet to Lagos.
The Director-General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, has also issued an advisory to the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), recommending that K1 be placed on a no-fly list pending the outcome of official investigations.
According to the NCAA, this move aligns with global aviation standards designed to protect passengers, crew, and airline operations from avoidable risks.
