The Federal Government has officially announced the theme for Nigeria’s 2025 Independence Day celebrations, setting the tone for the nation’s 65th anniversary of freedom from colonial rule.
In a press statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Segun Imohiosen, said the theme, “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” captures the urgent call for unity, patriotism, and collaboration across every sector of society.

According to the statement, the theme underscores the necessity for government institutions, the private sector, civil society organizations, and citizens to work hand in hand to advance national peace, prosperity, and progress. It also reflects Nigeria’s resilience in the face of challenges since independence in 1960, while emphasizing the need to consolidate past achievements and pursue new milestones under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
“The theme for Nigeria at 65 underscores the need for unity, collaboration and patriotism among the public sector, private sector, civil society, and the citizenry towards building a nation characterised by sustainable peace, prosperity and progress,” the statement read.
The Federal Government explained that since achieving independence on October 1, 1960, Nigeria has weathered numerous trials and recorded significant gains in various sectors. These achievements, it noted, must be solidified and expanded through collective efforts aimed at building a strong and inclusive nation.
Imohiosen further disclosed that all government agencies and development partners are expected to align their programmes with the Independence Day theme to ensure that its message resonates across all facets of national life. This, he stressed, would help mobilize citizens and institutions towards contributing meaningfully to the actualisation of national goals.
Independence Anniversary Activities
As part of events lined up for the 65th Independence Day celebrations, a Juma’at prayer is scheduled to hold on Friday, September 26, at 1:00pm., followed by an inter-denominational church service on Sunday, September 28, at 10:00 am. Both religious events are designed to foster unity, reflection, and gratitude while seeking divine blessings for the nation.
