The Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) has raised alarm over what it described as a case of attempted murder, conspiracy, malicious damage, and threat to life involving a serving police officer and land grabbers at Ijagemo Road, Tailor Bus Stop, Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State.
According to CHSR President, Comrade Alex Omotehinse, the organization received a petition from Mr. Kolawale Oluakamo, who alleged that his life is in grave danger following repeated attacks linked to a four-plot parcel of land worth over ₦40 million.
Police Involvement in Attempted Murder, Land Grabbing
Mr. Oluakamo, who manages the property on behalf of his elder sister abroad with a valid Letter of Attorney, survey plan, and receipts, narrated that on February 2, 2025, a serving officer at Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwene, threatened to kill him. He further alleged that the acting family head, Mr. Akeem Ajakaye, sponsored land thugs in collaboration with the officer to eliminate him. On April 16, 2025, armed men stormed the site, firing gunshots, damaging property, and attempting to take over the land by force. On September 23, 2025, he was physically attacked, beaten, and warned never to return to the property.
CHSR stressed that this case goes beyond a mere land dispute, describing it as a direct attack on life, human rights, and the rule of law. The human rights group expressed grave concern about the alleged involvement of a serving police officer, warning that such abuse of authority erodes public confidence in law enforcement. Omotehinse stated that the Nigeria Police Force is funded by taxpayers to protect lives and property, not to serve private interests. He added that if unchecked, this impunity will embolden others, endanger citizens, and further destroy trust in law enforcement.

CHSR called for the immediate suspension and investigation of Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwene, stressing the need for an independent probe with civilian oversight. The group demanded the arrest and prosecution of all perpetrators once culpability is established, as well as protection for Mr. Oluakamo and his sister, the rightful property owner. It also urged the Nigeria Police to issue a public statement to reassure citizens that criminal conduct will not be tolerated in its ranks.
The rights group cautioned that silence or inaction by the police authorities could lead to wider communal violence in Lagos. Omotehinse warned that the matter must not be swept under the carpet, insisting that justice delayed is justice denied and accountability ignored is impunity rewarded. He said Nigeria cannot afford either.
CHSR reaffirmed its commitment to stand with victims of unlawful intimidation and called for urgent steps to avert bloodshed and restore public confidence in law enforcement.
