Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Igbajo, Boluwaduro Local Government Area, following violent unrest that erupted on Sunday night and continued into early Monday.
The crisis was reportedly triggered by tensions surrounding the recent death of Prince Adegboyega Famodun, the reinstated but embattled Owa of Igbajo, who died last week at 67 after a brief illness.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor ordered an immediate lockdown, saying the government would not tolerate any breakdown of law and order.
Adeleke condemned the violence, stressing that his administration would act decisively against anyone attempting to destabilise the community. Security agencies including the Army, Police, DSS, and the NSCDC have been deployed for round-the-clock surveillance.
Famodun’s kingship has been at the centre of a prolonged leadership tussle. Initially installed in 2022 under former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, he was removed by Adeleke’s executive order and replaced with Oba Ademola Makinde.
However, in January 2025, the Osun State High Court reinstated Famodun—a ruling currently under appeal.
The state government urged residents to remain calm and comply strictly with the curfew until normalcy is fully restored.
