Following the defection of Osun State GovernorAfrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reacted to the shock resignation of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP.
The music icon posted the update on his X page on Tuesday with the short caption “Jeje…” a remark widely interpreted as a call for calm as the political drama unfolds.
Governor Adeleke’s resignation surfaced late Monday night through a letter dated November 4 2025 and addressed to the chairman of Ward 2 in Ede North. In the letter titled “Resignation of my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP” the governor said he was quitting due to the unresolved national leadership crisis rocking the party.
Adeleke wrote “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP I hereby resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect. I thank the Peoples Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator Represented Osun West and as Governor of Osun State under the Peoples Democratic Party.”

His exit comes less than 24 hours before the PDP governorship primary in Osun deepening uncertainty within the party’s state chapter. Earlier on Monday Osun PDP chairman Sunday Bisi announced that the primary had been suspended due to persistent factional disputes. He also disclosed that the governor was no longer seeking the party’s ticket.
But confusion heightened when another letter reportedly from the PDP national secretariat insisted that the primaries would proceed as scheduled at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo. The contradictory directives exposed the growing division between state and national leadership.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has revealed that Governor Ademola Adeleke will officially join a new political party on or before December 13, following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP.
Speaking on a political programme on Rave FM in Osogbo on Tuesday, Alimi said the resignation was inevitable due to worsening issues at the national level of the PDP.
“The governor of Osun State and the Asiwaju of Ede has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party. The governor has done this and has written his resignation letter for quite a long time,” he said.
Alimi urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting the governor. He described Adeleke’s exit as overdue and quoted a Yoruba proverb that reflects the governor’s belief that the people remain his primary source of protection and strength.
On the reasons for the resignation, the commissioner stressed that the PDP’s internal crisis at the national level had become a major threat to Adeleke’s nomination chances ahead of next year’s governorship election. He noted that the situation was urgent, as the Independent National Electoral Commission nomination window closes on December 15.
“The governor is happy with the reaction so far, and everybody understands that had it not been the fact of the crisis or division at the national level, the governor would not have defected,” he said.
Alimi dismissed claims that the All Progressives Congress welcomed Adeleke’s resignation, insisting that the opposition party is unsettled by the governor’s move.
“They are pretending. They know what has hit them. They thought he would be a stupid person so that they would use that to challenge him. The people causing problems for us in the PDP are apologists for other political parties,” he stated.
He added that the APC had hoped Adeleke would remain in the troubled PDP so they could exploit the crisis to challenge his candidacy in court, but the governor outsmarted them.
On the governor’s next political home, Alimi said discussions are ongoing and clarity will come before December 13.
“He has resigned now, but let us say on or before December 12 or 13, everybody will have known because the deadline for nomination, primary and other processes for political parties is December 15,” he said.
The commissioner reiterated that Adeleke’s resignation was avoidable and blamed it solely on the PDP’s national level division.
“Had it been that the PDP is not fractionalised at the national level, there would not be any reason for Governor Ademola Adeleke to have resigned from the PDP,” he added.
