Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and ex-Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal cited persistent internal conflicts, leadership disagreements, and deepening divisions within the PDP as the key reasons for his departure. He formally submitted his resignation in writing to his ward chairman before aligning with the ADC, bringing along his supporters and close associates.
Reflecting on his political journey, Tambuwal acknowledged the PDP’s role in shaping his career, from his tenure as Speaker to his second term as Governor. However, he emphasized that the current state of the party made continued membership unsustainable.
“The persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the PDP have made it increasingly difficult to continue my membership of the party. These developments have weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party and necessitated this decision,” Tambuwal stated.
Explaining his choice of the ADC, Tambuwal said the party offers a platform committed to integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and national development. He reaffirmed his dedication to democratic principles, justice, and national unity.
Tambuwal’s defection comes amid a series of high-profile moves to the ADC, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi, strengthening the party’s position as a viable opposition ahead of upcoming elections.
