Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal has approved the appointment of Kabir Yahaya Gusau as the pioneer Managing Director of the Gusau International Airport.
The announcement was made in a press statement issued on March 11, 2026, by the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada.
According to the statement, the appointment is part of the administration’s efforts to ensure proper coordination and operational readiness of the airport project as it prepares to begin operations.
The Zamfara State Government said the airport is expected to improve international connectivity, attract investment opportunities, and support economic development in the state and across Nigeria.
Gusau is described as a seasoned aviation professional with over three decades of experience in aviation operations and airspace management.

During his career, he served in several strategic roles in the Nigerian aviation sector, including Airspace Manager at the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) at Gombe Airport. He also served as Special Assistant to the Managing Director and Chief Executive of NAMA.
Until his recent appointment, Gusau worked as the General Manager of Aeronautical Information Services at the NAMA headquarters in Abuja.
He holds a Master’s degree in Transport Planning from Lagos State University, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Transport Planning from the same institution. He also obtained certifications in Aeronautical Communication from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology in Zaria.
Governor Lawal expressed confidence that the new Managing Director will use his experience to ensure effective coordination and smooth airport operations in line with international standards.
