The Federal Government led by has signed an agreement with the to facilitate the deportation of Nigerians who failed to obtain asylum in the United Kingdom.
The deal was reached during President Tinubu’s official visit to the earlier this week, according to information released by the UK Home Office.
Under the new arrangement, Nigerians whose asylum applications have been rejected and who have exhausted all legal appeal options will be returned to .
Reports indicate that about 961 Nigerian asylum seekers currently in the UK have used up all their appeal rights, meaning the British authorities have officially ruled that they do not qualify for refugee protection.
In addition, there are about 1,110 Nigerian nationals in the UK who have been convicted of various offences and are awaiting deportation back to Nigeria.
The agreement will also make it easier for the UK authorities to return Nigerians who overstayed their visas after the expiration of their permitted stay.

Officials say the move is part of broader cooperation between both countries on migration control, security and immigration management.
President Tinubu’s visit to the UK also focused on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the British government.
