Police Launch Special Squad to Combat Rising Crime in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated a special tactical security outfit known as the “Command Sweepers Squad” to address rising criminal activities in Ikorodu and adjoining communities.

The initiative was announced on Sunday in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai.

According to the statement, the temporary intervention squad was established following growing concerns and public outcry over increasing incidents of crime in parts of the Ikorodu axis.

The Command Sweepers Squad comprises personnel drawn from various tactical formations of the command, including the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Eko Strike Force, 2 PMF, 22 PMF, and 63 PMF, alongside operatives from sister security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

Police authorities disclosed that the squad has been strategically stationed in Ijede to enable swift deployment and rapid response operations across Ikorodu and surrounding communities.

To enhance operational efficiency, the squad has also been equipped with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers recently donated to the police command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.

The police said operatives have already been deployed to identified black spots and criminal hideouts to conduct intelligence-led operations, raids, stop-and-search duties, and confidence-building patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements and safeguarding residents.

“The Commissioner of Police assures residents that the operation will be conducted professionally and in line with the rule of law,” the statement noted.

Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible and timely information through the command’s emergency lines.

The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state, particularly in areas experiencing heightened security concerns.
