The Labour Party’s Lagos State governorship candidate, Rotimi Odunaike, has officially kicked off his campaign, promising to build “A New Lagos For All” and fix the state’s infrastructure and social amenities.
Odunaike made the pledge on Friday at the campaign flag-off in Ikeja, where he accused successive administrations since the return of democracy in 1999 of allowing Lagos to work largely for the benefit of a privileged few.
He said his administration, if elected, would place the people at the centre of governance and begin addressing the state’s infrastructure and social challenges from the day he is sworn in.
“I will fix Lagos. Our slogan is ‘A New Lagos For All’. This is not just a mere slogan, but a determination to put the people at the centre of my administration,” Odunaike said.
He added that his running mate, Prince Lateef Adenkule Adele, would work with him to make Lagos “work for all.”
The campaign also featured the presentation of Odunaike’s 162-page manifesto, titled Our Covenant With the People of Lagos, which outlines his proposed approach to addressing challenges confronting the state.
The event was attended by Labour Party National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, and members of the party’s National Working Committee.
Usman urged the party’s leadership in Lagos to unite ahead of the election, warning that internal division could undermine the party’s chances.
“I charge you to surpass the feat the Labour Party recorded in 2023. I am certain that, with unity of purpose, you can achieve this because the Labour Party is a party of the grassroots in Lagos State,” she said.
Odunaike, a banking and finance professional and entrepreneur with interests in agriculture, technology and artificial intelligence, is a former Chairman of the Labour Party in Lagos State.
According to the party, he assumed leadership during a period of internal crisis and helped reconcile factions while repositioning the party for electoral success.
