The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has resigned as Senator representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District.
The newly elected Deputy National Chairman (North), Abubakar Kyari, also resigned as the lawmaker representing Borno North District.
The resignation letters of both lawmakers were read by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, during the plenary.
Adamu explained that his resignation follows his recent emergence as the new APC Chairman.
Adamu emerged as the APC National Chairman about a year and nine months after the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC) was dissolved.
He was returned unopposed at the party’s national convention held at the Eagle Square in Abuja, the nation’s capital, on March 26.
Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State, who is also Chairman of the Electoral Committee, announced Adamu as the winner of the contest after party members and leaders endorsed him at the convention via a voice vote.
He had gone into the election as the consensus candidate following the withdrawal of his co-contenders from the contest.
