ADC Slams APC Over Early Tinubu 2027 Campaigns, Says It’s Illegal

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has lashed out at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of abandoning governance for early re-election campaigns while Nigerians struggle with hunger, insecurity, and economic hardship.

In a fiery statement released on Wednesday, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, criticised the APC for what he called a “non-stop victory parade” endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term—almost two years ahead of the 2027 elections.

Abdullahi described the premature campaign activities, including rallies and billboards across cities like Abuja, Kano, Minna, and Port Harcourt, as clear violations of the Electoral Act. According to him, these public displays are illegal because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not opened the window for campaigns.

“Every political billboard is a billboard of failure,” Abdullahi declared.

The ADC warned that while the ruling party is “hoisting campaign billboards,” millions of Nigerians are dealing with the worst inflation in decades, skyrocketing fuel prices, and a collapsing naira.

They noted that inflation has remained above 22%, petrol has risen from ₦185 to over ₦1,000 per litre, and the naira now trades at over ₦1,500 to the dollar-up from ₦461 just last year. The result? A country where food, rent, and transportation are now luxuries for the average citizen.

Worse still, the party said insecurity has reached “industrial scale,” with over 3,000 security-related killings and mass abductions in places like Zamfara within months.

“Instead of fixing our broken economy and protecting citizens, the APC is flooding the streets with Tinubu’s second-term posters,” the ADC said. “Our people are not safe, not fed, not employed—but the ruling party is campaigning illegally.”

The statement also highlighted power failures, growing debt, and declining press freedom as signs that the Tinubu administration is failing on all fronts.

ADC called on the APC to “dismantle its illegal campaign machinery,” respect the law, and focus on solving Nigeria’s many challenges. The party vowed to continue holding the government accountable both “in the public square and, when the time comes, at the ballot box.
