UPDATED: Lagos Police Restore Calm After Gunfire Injures Three in Onosa Community

The Lagos State Police Command says it has restored peace and order in Onosa community, Elemoro area of Lagos State, following a violent clash that left three persons injured.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 29, 2025, when six police officers from the Elemoro Division on routine patrol encountered an angry mob. In an attempt to protect themselves, the officers discharged their firearms, injuring three individuals who were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a team of officers to the scene in a swift response to the unrest. His intervention at Onosa Community ensured that barricades erected by the mob were dismantled, restoring the free flow of traffic. The police boss also moved deeper into the community, holding direct engagements with youths and community leaders in a bid to calm tensions and promote dialogue.

To reinforce trust and accountability, the officers involved in the shooting have been taken into custody, while investigations are underway to determine the circumstances of the incident. The police command assured residents of a transparent inquiry and promised that justice would be served.

Meanwhile, a heavy police presence remains in Onosa to prevent further breakdown of law and order. CP Jimoh has also invited community leaders for continued dialogue, emphasizing the need for peace and cooperation between residents and security agencies.

The Lagos State Police Command urged residents to remain calm, support law enforcement efforts, and avoid actions that could threaten public safety.
