“Allegation from Pit of Hell” – AGF Fires Back at Claims of ‘EFCC-Governors’ Secret Meeting

In a strong and unusual choice of words, the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) has dismissed recent claims about a secret meeting involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Solicitor General, and some Nigerian governors.

The explosive claim came from Paul Ibe, spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, during a recent TV interview. He suggested that the EFCC Chairman and the Solicitor General met with two governors—one former and one serving—from the South-South region just 48 hours before they defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Though Ibe didn’t drop any names, his comments quickly sparked reactions, especially from the justice ministry. Kamarudeen Ogundele, Special Assistant on Communication and Publicity in the AGF’s office, issued a statement on Friday calling the allegation “from the pit of hell.”

“We wish to state categorically that the allegation is from the pit of hell, and at best, a figment of the imagination of Mr. Ibe,” Ogundele said.

He stressed that neither the EFCC Chairman nor the Solicitor General held any such meeting and dismissed the claim as a political move to paint the Tinubu administration’s anti-corruption fight in a bad light.

“We know as a fact that the EFCC chairman and the Solicitor General of the Federation never met any serving or former governor as alleged by him,” he stated.

According to Ogundele, such claims only aim to mislead the public and weaken trust in the government’s ongoing efforts to tackle corruption.

“This is nothing more than a feeble attempt to discredit President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and its stand against corruption,” he added.

The AGF’s office reaffirmed its commitment to justice, promising that no amount of political pressure or public noise would derail their pursuit of truth and accountability.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration will continue to uphold the rule of law and will not falter in the fight against corruption, no matter whose ox is gored,” Ogundele concluded.
