Awka, Anambra State – A renewed sense of confidence is sweeping through the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State following the emergence of Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu as the party’s flagbearer for the November 2025 governorship election.
But more than just celebrating a primary victory, party leaders are now openly declaring their intention to take over the state—marking what they call the beginning of a political shift in the Southeast.
Chief Chukwuebuka Obidike, a prominent APC chieftain, says the party’s preparations are in full gear to challenge and replace the current governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Speaking to reporters shortly after Ukachukwu’s win, Obidike said the APC is more united and strategic than ever. “This is no longer just a campaign—it’s a rescue mission,” he said.
According to Obidike, many people in Anambra are frustrated with the current state of governance. He blamed Governor Soludo for what he described as poor performance in areas like security, infrastructure, and economic growth.
“Anambra used to be known for its vibrant markets and business environment,” he said. “Now, people are scared, businesses are shutting down, and the roads are in terrible shape. The promises made in 2021 have not been kept.”
He also took a swipe at the governor’s widely publicized campaign slogan of turning Anambra into “the Dubai of Africa,” saying it has become an empty phrase.

Obidike argued that Anambra needs to align with the political party in power at the federal level to experience real progress.
“This is the time for Anambra to join the national grid politically,” he said. “Being in the opposition has not helped the state. With the APC, there will be better cooperation with the federal government and more development projects.”
Obidike said Ukachukwu’s emergence as the APC candidate has excited party members and voters alike. He described Ukachukwu as experienced, capable, and prepared to bring meaningful change to the state.
“Ukachukwu is not just a politician; he’s a man of action,” Obidike said. “The enthusiasm we are seeing from the grassroots shows that Anambra is ready for something new.”

He also dismissed claims that Governor Soludo is seeking support from the presidency to help him retain power, warning that such political moves could backfire.
With just under seven months to the governorship election, the political climate in Anambra is heating up. The APC says it’s not just hopeful—but ready to win.
“We are not playing games. We have a clear plan, and we are taking this message to every town and village,” Obidike concluded.
