Discover how APGA is unifying behind incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo ahead of the April primaries for the November 2025 Anambra governorship election amid internal dissent and rising APC challenges.
As political parties in Anambra State gear up for the April primaries ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election, the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) appears to be firmly backing incumbent Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo. With no internal challengers emerging, Soludo’s camp is positioning him as the uncontested candidate—a move that sharply contrasts with the turbulence seen in other parties.
APGA’s consolidation around Governor Soludo comes after years of internal strife, notably involving Chief Edozie Njoku, who long claimed leadership within the party. Njoku’s persistent legal battles—from local courts to the Supreme Court—culminated in his political ambition being decisively curtailed. Despite earlier attempts to declare APGA had “no sole candidate” and his subsequent threats to suspend Soludo, the governor’s growing popularity and developmental record have silenced dissent within the party.
In contrast, the opposition camp has witnessed notable defections. Several former APGA members, including Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu and Chief Chukwuma Umeoji, have shifted allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC), aiming to capture the governorship ticket. APC’s national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has even hinted at deploying a winning strategy similar to those used in Edo and Ondo states—an assertion that APGA leaders quickly dismissed as unrealistic given their robust local presence.
Governor Soludo’s administration is leveraging its developmental achievements to build voter confidence. Despite earlier security challenges—especially in parts of the Anambra South Senatorial Zone—the introduction of Operation Udo-ga-achi has notably enhanced the state’s security landscape. This initiative, alongside extensive road construction projects set for commissioning during the campaign, reinforces the administration’s commitment to tangible progress.
Moreover, the recent enforcement of the state’s homeland security law has led to the dispersal of fake native doctors and pastors, thereby strengthening public trust in the government’s ability to maintain law and order.

Grassroots Mobilisation with the Solution Kindred Initiative (SKI)
Central to APGA’s campaign strategy is the innovative Solution Kindred Initiative (SKI), designed to deepen grassroots engagement. At a recent stakeholders’ retreat in Awka, the Anambra State Chairman of APGA, Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, emphasized that the party’s extensive network—spanning over 12,000 traditional kindreds—is key to mobilising support across every village and household. This bottom-up approach is expected to fortify APGA’s dominance and deliver a stable, united front for the upcoming election.
Despite the unified support for Soludo, not all within APGA are celebrating the absence of a primary contest. Some party members express concern over dwindling financial flows, as fewer aspirants mean reduced competition and, consequently, smaller sums exchanged during the candidate selection process. This financial discontent contrasts with the lavish spending witnessed in other parties, yet APGA insiders remain confident that Soludo’s track record and ongoing grassroots efforts will translate into electoral success.
As the primaries draw near, APGA’s strategy appears clear: maintain stability, leverage Governor Soludo’s achievements, and deploy an expansive grassroots network to secure a resounding win in the November 2025 Anambra governorship election. While the APC continues to stir opposition, APGA’s consolidated front and focused developmental agenda could well dictate the political landscape in Anambra in the coming months.
