Veteran Nollywood actor and former Labour Party chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has launched a blistering attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of marginalizing the Southeast region and failing to uphold Nigeria’s delicate ethnic and religious balance.
In a fiery televised interview, Okonkwo declared that no genuine son or daughter of the Southeast should support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, arguing that the region has suffered severe political exclusion and economic neglect under the current administration.
“Whoever is from the Southeast and votes again for this president is not a true son of the Southeast,” Okonkwo said. “I say this without any reservation.”
Tinubu Has Punished the Southwest More Than Any Other Region
Okonkwo expressed outrage over what he described as Tinubu’s deliberate marginalization of the Southeast, pointing out that despite constitutional provisions for equal representation, the region received only two substantive ministerial slots instead of five.
He cited the removal of key ministers without replacement, including the Minister of Women Affairs from Anambra State and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment from Abia, as clear evidence of “hatred and bias” against the region.
The Labour Party stalwart also condemned Tinubu’s controversial Muslim-Muslim ticket, arguing that it alienated Nigeria’s Christian population — particularly the Southeast, which is overwhelmingly Christian.

“Tinubu had no intention of including Christians or the Southeast in governance,” Okonkwo asserted. “Even Muslim clerics from the North have admitted they were deceived. The Christian nations are now saying openly that Christians are being persecuted in Nigeria.”
He accused the president of deepening national suffering through failed economic and security policies, adding that even the Southwest, Tinubu’s own political base, has been “reduced to poverty and begging.”
“This government has reduced the Yoruba to beggars,” he claimed. “People who used to work hard and live well are now suffering. Lagos, his own state, didn’t even vote for him in 2023. The Southwest has been punished the most.”
Okonkwo further accused Tinubu of “robbing Rivers State of its mandate” by interfering in state leadership and frustrating Governor Sim Fubara’s administration. He said insecurity, poverty, and neglect have worsened across the North Central, Northwest, and Northeast, describing Tinubu’s leadership as “insensitive, incompetent, and disastrous.”
“Every region is bleeding — from the floods in Niger to the killings in Plateau and Taraba. Even in the Northeast, insurgency has resurged. No part of Nigeria is safe,” he said.
Okonkwo concluded with a bold prediction that President Tinubu’s political reign would be short-lived.

“If there’s anything like half-term president, that’s what he would have been. But the worst he can be is a one-term president,” he declared.
His remarks have sparked heated debate across political circles, with many praising his courage and others accusing him of inciting ethnic sentiment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
