Nigerians living abroad may soon be able to vote in future elections, thanks to new efforts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to include them in the country’s democratic process.
During a visit to Paris on Monday to inaugurate the new leadership of the APC France chapter, the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, revealed that discussions are already ongoing with the National Assembly to make this a reality.
While the focus of the event was the introduction of the new APC France team, Ganduje used the opportunity to speak on something that deeply concerns millions of Nigerians outside the country — their right to vote.
He said the ruling party is not only focused on reforms within Nigeria but is also thinking globally, adding that it will partner with other relevant agencies to ensure full political inclusion for Nigerians in the diaspora.
“We know many Nigerians living abroad want to be part of the country’s progress,” he said. “The APC is committed to making sure that their voices are heard, even from outside Nigeria.”
Although there have been past calls for diaspora voting, the push is now gaining more attention. A bill seeking to allow Nigerians abroad to vote is already at the National Assembly, but it has not yet passed the second reading.

Ganduje also noted that the party is becoming more united and attractive, with many politicians from other parties joining its ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“There is peace in the APC, and people are coming in from other parties because of our internal democracy,” he said.

On her part, Hajjiya Amina Baba-Suzuki, the newly sworn-in Chairperson of the ruling party in France, reminded the audience that Nigerians abroad are not just sending money home — they are also passionate about helping shape the country’s future.
“We are ready to mobilize, we are ready to contribute, but we also want to vote,” she said.
Interesting perspective! It gave me a new way of thinking about this topic.
Thanks for the valuable information. It was easy to understand and super useful.
