The Nigeria Police have confirmed the arrest of twelve suspected armed robbers in connection with the gruesome killing of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, during a violent attack at Unique Apartments, Abuja.
The arrests followed an intensive manhunt launched by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, which mobilized tactical teams and intelligence units immediately after the incident.
Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the suspects were apprehended through coordinated intelligence-led operations across several parts of the city.
“We can confirm that twelve suspects have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery and murder that occurred at Unique Apartments. The operation was swift and thorough, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact roles of each suspect,” Adeh stated.
She added that several items were recovered from the suspects, including firearms, stolen valuables, and electronic devices linked to the victims.

The tragic killing of Maduagwu, described by colleagues as a vibrant and promising journalist, has sparked widespread outrage and grief within Nigeria’s media community.
In a statement released shortly after her death, Arise News management expressed shock and deep sadness over the loss, calling for justice and stronger protection for journalists.
“Somtochukwu was a dedicated professional who embodied integrity and excellence in journalism. Her untimely death is a devastating blow to our newsroom and the entire media fraternity. We urge security agencies to ensure justice is served swiftly,” the statement read.
The attack also claimed the life of a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, who was reportedly on duty when the assailants struck.

The FCT Police Command assured the public of its commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice and maintaining security across the territory.
“We understand the public concern and wish to assure residents that the FCT will not be a safe haven for criminals,” Adeh added.
