The 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ikeja, has handed over a 36-year-old man, identified as Animashaun Khalid, to the Lagos State Police Command after he was arrested for impersonating an Army Major.
The suspect was apprehended at the Arena Market in Oshodi with a forged Nigerian Army identity card carrying his name and the rank of Major. Soldiers on duty quickly detected the fake ID and arrested him before transferring him to the police in what authorities described as a seamless inter-agency operation.
Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the handover in a statement, adding that the case has been assigned to Special Squad I for thorough investigation. The probe will seek to uncover the source of the forgery, identify possible accomplices, and establish whether the suspect used the fake identity to commit other crimes.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the Nigerian Army for the swift arrest and cooperation with the police. He emphasized the importance of synergy among security agencies in tackling crime and urged residents to remain vigilant by reporting suspicious activities.
He assured Lagosians that the collaboration between the police and the military would continue to strengthen security and ensure safety across the state.
