Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has sympathised with the government and people of Niger State over the explosion of a petrol-ladened tanker at Dikko Junction along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway on Saturday morning.
Authorities have confirmed 60 deaths following a scramble by residents of the area to scoop fuel from a fallen petrol tanker which suddenly exploded into flames, killing scores of the scoopers and other passersby. Vehicles, motorcycles, shops and other businesses worth millions of naira were also affected by the inferno.
Atiku in a post on X said he was heartbroken by the incident, praying that God comforts the families of the victims.
“I have been updated that the number of persons that died in the fuel tanker explosion in Dikko, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, now stands at 60. I am sad and heartbroken by the scope of this tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and the people and government of Niger State. May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace,” Atiku wrote.
