Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Council (NEC) have launched a coordinated verbal offensive against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his sudden alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that the move is politically risky, legally questionable, and morally disappointing.
At the 101st PDP NEC engagement in Abuja yesterday, four prominent party leaders — Chief Bode George, Governor Bala Mohammed, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and Dr. Babangida Aliyu — openly criticized Atiku’s defection, describing it as a betrayal of the party that gave him a political platform and a move driven purely by self-interest.
Bode George: “He Threw Us Under the Bus Then, He’s Doing It Again”
Chief Bode George, a respected elder statesman and former PDP Deputy National Chairman, said Atiku had a history of undermining the PDP, dating back to 2007.
“He couldn’t get the ticket in 2007 and threw the party under the bus. He’s doing it again now,” George said firmly.
He described the new coalition move with the ADC as another act of betrayal by someone who consistently places ambition above party unity.
“They grab power, share money — father, son, and wife. Is that the future we want for Nigeria?” he asked.
He urged party members not to be discouraged, insisting that with truth, justice, and selflessness, the PDP could still emerge victorious in future elections.
Bala Mohammed: “Leaving PDP for ADC Is Political Miscalculation”
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, warned that those leaving the PDP are making a serious mistake. He emphasized that the PDP remains Nigeria’s strongest and most organized opposition party.
“You are leaving a party with structures, offices, governors, senators, and nationwide legacy — to a party that has none of that? How is that smart?”
Mohammed said the PDP governors are delivering on good governance despite limited resources, citing states like Adamawa, Bayelsa, Zamfara, and Plateau as examples.
“If it’s all about tickets, fine — go and collect it. But what’s the use of a ticket when you will still lose?”
Ahmed Makarfi: “The ADC Coalition Is a Legal and Political Mess”
Former PDP National Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, questioned the legality of the new ADC coalition, revealing that he obtained official documents showing the party’s current leadership remains valid until 2026.
“So, what structure are they offering Atiku and others? It’s a legal trap, and many don’t even realize it.”
He warned that belonging to two political parties is against Nigerian law and stressed that the PDP was built from scratch and can rise again.
“It’s more honorable to stay or go — but don’t play double games. We want discipline and loyalty.”
Makarfi expressed confidence that once the PDP holds its convention and elects new leaders, many defectors will return — and others from different parties will also join.

Babangida Aliyu: “Atiku is a Nomadic Politician”
Former Niger State Governor Dr. Babangida Aliyu delivered one of the most scathing critiques, saying the party must stop accommodating politicians who jump from one platform to another for selfish gain.
“These are nomadic politicians. Our problems began in 2013 when personal interest became more important than party interest.”
Aliyu warned that repeating the mistake of tolerating such disloyalty would continue to weaken the PDP. He called for the party to focus on building a principled, united platform even if it means losing some elections.
“Even if we don’t win, let us be known as a party of integrity. We must reward loyalty and punish betrayal.”
He pointed to the 2019 presidential primary in Port Harcourt where several aspirants, including Atiku, had a history of leaving and returning to the PDP, saying, “That alone should tell us something.”
The party’s leadership has vowed to hold its national convention soon, rebuild its structures, and present a united front for the 2027 elections — with or without former members who have jumped ship.
“PDP is not a market square. It’s a home for those ready to build, not those always looking for where next to benefit,”the NEC members added.
