The resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a catastrophic event for the already struggling party, according Oladimeji Fabiyi, a stakeholder in the party has said.
Making his views known in a statement on Wednesday, Fabiyi described Atiku’s exit as a climactic moment signalling the demise of the PDP.
He said: “Atiku breathed life back into the PDP, and now that he has left the party, the PDP is back to its flat state.”
Fabiyi criticised PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagun, and the National Working Committee (NWC) for their role in what he called the “final burial” of the party.
Fabiyi noted that, “Wike and his allies will likely rejoice, as they can now hand over the party’s remains to Tinubu, with Atiku, the only leader who stood in their way, having gracefully stepped aside.”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has always shown disdain for the PDP.

He has always wanted the party dead and inactive and Wike and his allies have made Tinubu’s dream come true.
He emphasised the gravity of a national leader resigning from a party he helped establish, noting, “regardless of differing opinions, Atiku’s departure confirms the PDP’s irredeemable and pathetic state.”
Fabiyi compared the impact to former President Obasanjo’s earlier resignation, saying, “the party has not recovered from Obasanjo’s exit, and now, with Atiku gone, the soul of the PDP is truly lost.”
Praising Atiku’s courage, Fabiyi urged party faithful, especially the younger generation and those disillusioned by the party’s internal crises, to follow Atiku’s leadership.
“Atiku has provided direction for those whose political futures have been undermined by Wike and Damagun. I encourage all who believe in his vision to emulate this purposeful leader,” he said.
