In another significant development in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), 14 out of the 17 members of the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC), have declared support for the Appeal Court ruling affirming Rt Hon Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the PDP’s National Secretary.
The declaration was made yesterday by the PDP National Treasurer, Mr Yayari Ahmed Mohamemd, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues to newsmen at Government House, Port Harcourt, after a consultative meeting with Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State.
Mr Yayari said that, as at the time of their consultation meeting with Governor Fubara, there was no contrary judgement, or ruling of any higher court to invalidate the pronouncement of the December 20, 2024 ruling of the Appeal Court in Enugu, Enugu State.
“We are equally visiting these governors to assure them that the majority of the members of the NWC are with Okoye as the National Secretary of the Party and would continue to work with him, and we equally request the support and backing of the governors to accept this court of appeal judgment. As you are aware, up to this moment, there is no any court that set aside the ruling of the Appeal Court, and this is a case that they don’t have any stay or whatever. 14 (fourteen) of us, members of the NWC are in agreement to work along with the present the National Secretary of the Party”. Yayari declared.
Mr Yayari also said that the consultative meeting with PDP Governors is to rub-minds with the Governors on the way forward for the Party.
Another essence of the visit is to assure Nigerians that the PDP is coming together and getting set to take over power, not only at the federal level, but in more of the states in the county.
Furthermore, Mr Yayari affirmed Governor Sim Fubara as the leader of the PDP in Rivers State, saying that this has been the policy of the Party, that Governors elected on the platform of the Party are automatic leaders of the Party in their respective states.
“The Governor is the leader of the PDP in Rivers state. The policy of the PDP is that every sitting Governor is the leader of the Party. So, invariably, the Governor of Rivers State is the leader of the Party and we came to consult with our leader, and to assure him that we are (One Hundred Precent) 100% with him. We are together with him and we call upon him to make the PDP more stronger, as we call on the people of Rivers state to work with him, identify with him and support him in providing dividends of democracy as he is doing for the good people of Rivers state”
The PDP has consistently demonstrated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and respecting judicial decisions.
