…Says, Only the National Legal Adviser is Qualified to Make Such Appointment.
In a surprising turn of events, 11 out of 17 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) have publicly disassociated themselves from the appointment of Dr. J.Y. Musa by the Acting National Chairman, Amb Iliya Damagum, as the party’s legal representative at the Appeal/Supreme Courts.
In a petition letter dated January 21, 2025 and acknowledged by the registry of the two courts, 11 members of the Party’s National Working Committee, disassociated themselves from the purported appointment and asked the courts to disregard the nomination of Dr. J.Y. Musa as PDP’s legal counsel in the Stay of Execution and Appeal filed by the ousted National Secretary, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu.
Recall that an Enugu Appeal Court, on the 20th of December 2024, affirmed the ruling of a High Court, which had removed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the PDP National Secretary.
The 11 NWC members claimed that Dr. Musa’s appointment was not authorized by the Party, saying that, in-line with the Party’s Constitution in Article 42, only the National Legal Adviser is authorized to appoint external solicitor for the Party and not the job of National Chairman.
This revelation has sparked concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the legitimacy of Dr. Musa’s role in representing the PDP, as it has been alleged that Dr Musa is a close ally of Minister Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Rivers State.
This latest development adds to the party’s leadership woes, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability within the PDP’s decision-making processes.
The 11 NWC members’ petition serves as a call to action, urging the party to re-examine its leadership structure and ensure that all appointments are made in accordance with the party’s constitution and guidelines.
