President Bola Tinubu has called an emergency security meeting at the Presidential Villa following the bombing of an oil pipeline in Rivers State, known as the Trans Niger Pipeline (TPN), on Monday night.
The meeting, held behind closed doors on Tuesday, was attended by all the top security chiefs, including the Inspector-General of Police, the National Security Adviser, and the heads of the State Security Service (SSS) and National Intelligence Agency (NIA). The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu were also present.
Though official details of the meeting remain unclear, sources suggest it is linked to rising political tension in Rivers State. The crisis deepened after the Supreme Court reinstated 27 defected state lawmakers, reigniting impeachment moves against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The court also stopped statutory remittances to the state and nullified the election of local government administrators due to voter register issues.
