The long-running leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the National Secretary position has finally been resolved, as Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye has emerged once again as the South East’s unanimous nominee for the role.
This decision came during a crucial meeting of the South East PDP Zonal Executive Committee held today at the Government House in Enugu. The meeting, attended by governors, senators, former governors, National Assembly members, and other key party leaders, saw all stakeholders agree to forward Udeh-Okoye’s name to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) for final ratification.
Udeh-Okoye, a former PDP National Youth Leader and ex-lawmaker, is set to replace Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who was removed following months of internal party disagreements and a Supreme Court ruling that handed leadership matters back to the party.

Reacting to the development, Opposition Lawmakers Coalition Spokesman and federal lawmaker, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, hailed the decision, calling it “a turning point in PDP’s effort to rebuild itself.” He praised Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu and the South East PDP for acting swiftly and putting party interest first.
Ugochinyere also commended the PDP NWC, Acting Secretary Setonji Koshoedo, and other party leaders who resisted internal sabotage and pressure over land-related politics in Abuja, saying, “They chose the future of the party over personal gain.”
