Prominent Niger Delta activist, Annkio Briggs, has given a stern warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his political allies to stop blaming the Rivers State First Lady, Mrs. Valerie Fubara, for the recent walk-out protest by some women during a women empowerment visit by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Briggs urged political actors to stop dragging the President’s wife into local political fights. She said Rivers people deserve peace, not confusion fueled by personal interests.

“What happened was not an insult to Mrs. Tinubu,” Briggs clarified. “The women were looking forward to her visit. They had even made special preparations, including banners and gifts. It is unfair to twist the story.”

Briggs pointed fingers at what she called a “political gang” trying to use the situation to discredit Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his wife. She emphasized that Rivers people have suffered enough from political tension and deserve honesty, not manipulation.

“Not all of us are politicians, but we must speak up,” she said. “The truth is, Rivers belongs to all of us — not a few people who think they own the state.”

Briggs revealed that the group involved in the event, Rivers Women Unite for SIM (RWUS), is a non-political prayer group that has been supporting peace and development across the state for over a year. She described attempts to link their action to disrespect as “cheap blackmail.”

Calling for unity, she encouraged Rivers elders, women, and youths to reject divisive politics. “Let us not allow anyone to cause a fight between the wife of our Governor and the First Lady of Nigeria,” she said. “This state belongs to us all, and we must protect it.”

Briggs concluded with a warning: “Let no one try to destroy Rivers State just to win favor in Abuja. It will not work.”
