The (PDP) has criticized individuals within the party who are allegedly supporting the ruling (APC), insisting that members cannot belong to both political camps.
Speaking during a media interaction, a party representative warned that the PDP would not tolerate what he described as political “hybridization,” stressing that the opposition party must remain independent and committed to providing an alternative to the government led by President .
Using the symbols of both parties to illustrate his point, the official said the broom, which represents the APC, and the umbrella, the symbol of the PDP, cannot coexist.
“Broom and umbrella cannot be together,” he said. “You don’t keep a broom in the same place you keep an umbrella. They do not coexist.”
He added that anyone who wishes to support the current administration should openly join the APC rather than claim membership of the PDP while promoting another party’s agenda.
The party also accused some individuals of masquerading as PDP members while allegedly working for the interests of the ruling party, warning that such actions could weaken the role of the opposition in Nigeria’s democracy.
Meanwhile, the PDP said it is strengthening its membership registration process to rebuild its structure across the country. The party explained that Nigerians can now register through their state party officials even if they live outside their home states, noting that the process allows individuals residing in cities like Abuja or Lagos to register in their states of origin through designated party officials.
According to the party, the registration system is designed to ensure accuracy and protect members’ personal information. Officials disclosed that more than 638,000 membership registrations are currently undergoing verification to confirm names, phone numbers, and other details before approval.
The PDP also noted that the party’s leadership dispute is currently before the and other courts, expressing confidence that the legal process will eventually clarify the leadership issues.
The opposition party maintained that it remains committed to defending democratic values and providing Nigerians with a credible political alternative.
