President Muhammadu Buhari has directed all members of the Federal Executive Council running for elective offices to submit their letters of resignation on or before Monday the 16th of May, 2022.
The Minister of information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council meeting.
Mohammed said the directive excludes the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo because he is an elected member of the cabinet.
The Information Minister added that the directive might involve political appointees.
A source at the FEC meeting said President Buhari singled out the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba for braving the odds to resign to avoid conflict of interest.
“I expect other members of this council seeking to be President to resign with immediate effect,” the president was quoted as saying.
Some of the aspirants include the Governor of Central Bank, Mr Godwin Emefiele; the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr Timipreye Sylva and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio among others.
