Activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has called on Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies to stop acting helpless in the face of corruption, especially when it involves powerful people in government.
Reacting to the shocking revelation of a N71.2 billion gap in the student loan fund, Adeyanju expressed deep concern and disappointment. He said it is heartbreaking that such a huge amount meant to support struggling students may have been mismanaged or looted.
“What kind of country are we building when young people can’t access basic education due to lack of funds, but billions meant for them mysteriously disappear?” he questioned.
Adeyanju praised the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for starting an investigation, but insisted that this should not just be another talk show. He urged the agency to go all out, arrest those responsible, and ensure they are punished, no matter how highly placed.
“The ICPC and other anti-corruption agencies must stop acting like they are powerless when it comes to holding top officials accountable. We need action, not silence. Nigerians are watching,” he warned.
He also said that unless firm steps are taken to punish those behind the alleged fraud, the country will continue to see repeated abuse of public funds.
Well-written and straight to the point. Keep up the good work!
