Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has made a passionate appeal to citizens, leaders, and institutions to place children at the centre of the state’s development plans, describing them as “the greatest untapped treasure” the state possesses.
In commemoration of this year, 2025 Children’s Day, Governor Fubara said investing in the wellbeing, education, and dreams of children is the most secure way to build a strong and prosperous future for Rivers State.
“Invest in a child today, and you have secured Rivers State’s tomorrow,” he declared in his message. “Our children are not just part of our future—they are the very foundation of it. Their dreams, ideas, and energy are Rivers State’s richest natural resource.”
This year’s celebration, themed “Tapping the Untapped Natural Treasure,” focuses on discovering and nurturing the talents of young people. Governor Fubara said the theme aligns perfectly with his administration’s mission to create opportunities for every child to thrive.

“We are putting structures in place to help our children shine. From better schools to quality healthcare and protection policies, we are determined to help them become the best versions of themselves,” he added.
He also used the opportunity to thank parents, teachers, and caregivers for the key roles they play in shaping young lives. “You are doing God’s work,” he said. “Let us keep working together to ensure that no child is left behind.”
As Rivers State joined the nation in celebrating Children’s Day, the Governor’s words stood out as a powerful reminder: investing in children is not just an act of love—it’s a bold step toward a brighter tomorrow.
