Inibehe Effiong, a human rights Lawyer has been remanded at the Akwa Ibom prison.
The Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Ekaette Obot ordered the remand of the lawyer over what she said is his “overheating attitude” in court.
Effiong is handling a case for his client before Justice Obot’s court in Uyo – he publicised his remand by the Judge on social media on Wednesday morning.
“I have been sent to Uyo prison by the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaette Obot, for one month for defending Leo Ekpenyong in a libel suit filed by Governor Udom Emmanuel,” Mr Effiong said in the WhatsApp message.
“I was at the Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday to defend Sowore and the AAC.
“I flew into Uyo last night to defend Leo Ekpenyong in a libel suit filed by Governor Udom Emmanuel and Senator Effiong Bob against him over alleged libel.
“I have helped many people out of unlawful detention. Going to prison myself will fortify me to fight harder for Nigerians who cannot fight for them.”
Inibehe Effiong will be in jail for one month.
The human rights lawyer was in court to defend another lawyer, Leo Ekpenyong, who was sued by Governor Udom Emmanuel for alleged defamation.
