Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke has been declared the winner of the Governorship election in Osun state.
He won in 17 local government areas out of the state’s 30 while Oyetola of the APC claimed victory in the remaining 13 local government areas.
The Returning officer of the election, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, Vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos declared Adeleke the winner of the keenly contested election.
The returning officer said the PDP candidate polled 403,371 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Governor Gboyega Oyetola who polled 375,027 votes
Adeleke beat the incumbent governor and 12 other candidates that took part in the election including Akin Ogunbiyi of the Accord Party, Goke Omigbodun of the Social Democratic Party, and the former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, who contested under the platform of Labour Party.
The election was a repeat of the 2018 contest between the two politicians, re-igniting old political rivalries between them.
